Big News & How to Deal with Family Estrangement
It’s hard to believe we're already four months into 2021. Many would like to forget about the year behind us, but I'm grateful that 2020 sparked positive changes in my life. I got to know my children and their needs in a new way. I met my neighbors, learned about their lives, and interactions with clients deepened.
The challenges and experiences I was having at home and the conversations I was having with my clients brought into full relief the value of health, family, community, and being strategic and efficient with time and other resources.
So, when it was time to think about what returning to a work-space could look like, I made a big change to my business by moving my practice closer to home. I now lease a new, beautiful office in La Jolla, which is just a short ride away from my home in Pacific Beach.
I know more time in my community will help me hold onto the lessons of 2020. The time I previously devoted to my commute will now be spent with my family. Coffee runs, lunch breaks and banking will now be done among my neighbors and friends.
I look forward to welcoming clients in my new space. And for those who prefer not to come to the new office, I’ve gotten pretty good at video conferences and representing clients well without in-person meetings.
Is Your Family Dealing with Estrangement?
Miriam (our paralegal extraordinaire!) sent me this Atlantic article because we see a lot of estrangement in our estate planning work. The article posits that some estrangement is caused by generational differences in family values. Neighborhood Spotlight: Wayfarer Bakery
I highly recommend sampling the delicious baked good from Wayfarer Bakery, which is just a block from my office. I brought Wayfarer treats in to the office today, pre-ordered pastries for my girlfriends that came over last weekend, and made a note in my calendar to pre-order for Mother’s Day. The croissants transport you to Paris!
Spring Fever is Going Around!
I am so looking forward to brighter days! The Nicholsons took a quick road trip to Sedona, Arizona and enjoyed some great hiking.
